About Cathy Pope
Cathy Pope brings a design-driven approach to jewellery, drawing from her background as a stylist in film and television and dressmaker. Her expertise in creating characters through clothing translated seamlessly into jewellery design, with a keen eye for form, shape, and personal expression.
The birth of Cathy Pope Jewellery in 2011 was an organic response to the existing jewellery market. Dissatisfied with options that were either overly expensive or mass-produced, she created a distinctive design - a bold stone on a substantial gold chain - that quickly attracted attention from friends and local retailers and her iconic chunky choker necklace was born.
Design Process
Annual design trips to Jaipur, India, form the core of Cathy's creative process. Here, she sources gemstones and works directly with the makers, transforming her inspirations from vibrant Indian markets back to her New Zealand boutique in the heart of Ponsonby. Each collection emerges through careful curation, photo shoots, and a meticulous approach to design. “Each and every collection I design comes from an authentic place. It’s either influenced by an experience I have had, a moment or memory in my life, or a feeling that I might have felt. Before Cathy Pope Jewellery I wore mostly heirloom pieces that I’d inherited and modified as I’ve never enjoyed wearing mass produced jewellery.”

I’m a fan of patterns and texture and I’m always striving to create a new experience for my customers by designing unique pieces they haven’t seen or tried before. ”
